Phnom Penh, December 11, 2025 — The Council for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) under the Office of the Council of Ministers invited the Cashew nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) to participate in a consultation workshop titled “Consumer Incentives and Market Premiums for Regenerative Agriculture in Cambodia,” held Thursday at Phnom Penh Hotel. The event is part of the ASEAN-CGIAR “Innovate for Food and Nutrition Security” program.
The workshop was organized by the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR), in collaboration with Alliance Bio-diversity International and CIAT, as part of the implementation of Intervention Package 1 Plus (IP1+). This regional initiative aims to advance regenerative agroecology and support sustainable food systems across ASEAN member states.
Intervention Package 1 (IP1), “Implementing Regenerative Agroecology/Agriculture and the Prudent Use of Agrochemicals,” focuses on scaling regenerative agriculture practices, promoting circular economy principles, improving soil health, and reducing reliance on hazardous agrochemicals. To achieve these goals, the program leverages public-private collaborations, multi-stakeholder platforms, participatory research, and the development of supportive policy and market systems. The IP1 Plan of Action for 2025–2026 outlines activities to build on current progress and strengthen cross-sectoral linkages with other intervention packages.

As part of the IP1+ component, two key studies on regenerative food and agriculture systems in Cambodia are underway:
- A review and analysis of market premiums that support the development of regenerative agriculture products in Cambodia and Laos.
- A literature review on Cambodia’s food system transformation, consumer behavior change strategies, and the flow of regenerative agriculture products from Battambang province, aimed at identifying consumer incentive patterns and actions to enhance market motivation for regenerative agriculture.
Thursday’s workshop served as a platform to present preliminary findings from both studies and gather input from stakeholders.

Workshop objectives included:
- Presenting and validating results from the Market Premiums study, including an updated list of market premiums, their locations, contacts, and key characteristics.
- Presenting and validating findings from the Consumer Incentive Patterns study, focusing on the added value of regenerative and sustainable agriculture products, as well as targeted actions to strengthen consumer motivation for products originating from Battambang province.
The workshop brought together representatives from government agencies, development partners, private sector actors, and civil society organizations to discuss approaches for strengthening Cambodia’s transition toward regenerative agriculture and more sustainable food systems.
