Phnom Penh, December 12 — The Cashew nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) this week strengthened its engagement in national efforts to improve business efficiency and expand trade opportunities, participating in two key events led by government ministries.
Earlier in the week, CAC collaborated with the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI) to organize a workshop on online enterprise registration. The session aimed to help businesses streamline registration procedures, improve operational efficiency, and encourage innovation within Cambodia’s enterprise community.
Meanwhile, CAC representatives attended the official launch of the Cambodia Free Trade Agreement Portal (FTA Portal) at the Ministry of Commerce. As a major stakeholder in the export of raw and processed cashew nuts, CAC welcomed the initiative, noting that the government’s push to reduce bureaucracy marks an important transition for businesses seeking to access regional and global markets.
The newly launched FTA Portal was developed to provide businesses with a centralized, easy-to-navigate platform for information related to Cambodia’s free trade agreements. An official from the Ministry of Commerce said the platform aims to improve transparency, simplify trade procedures, and help exporters maximize the advantages available under various FTAs.
According to the Ministry, the FTA Portal will:
- Promote trade liberalization and strengthen economic cooperation.
- Offer clear explanations and demonstrations of Cewrtificate of Origin (CO) and related procedures, enabling exporters and importers to save time and better understand product requirements under each agreement.
- Provide comprehensive information on all FTAs to which Cambodia is a party.
- Include comparison tables for customs tariffs, CO criteria, and key guidelines, serving as essential tools for exporters looking to utilize FTA benefits effectively.
- Clarify the status and procedures for export processes.
- Deliver extensive trade data, statistics, and market insights through its Trade Information Function, supporting well-informed decisions and helping businesses identify new market opportunities.
Silot Uon, president of CAC noted that both the enterprise registration workshop and the FTA Portal launch reflect the government’s commitment to creating a more business-friendly environment, reducing administrative barriers, and empowering Cambodian enterprises—including those in the cashew sector—to compete more effectively in international markets.
