Phnom Penh, Cambodia – British food distributor Whitworths has expressed strong interest in sourcing processed agricultural products from Cambodia, particularly cashew nuts and dried fruits, for supply to the UK market.
The interest was confirmed during a meeting between Whitworths’ representatives and Sam Heng Bora, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce and Chairman of the Export Promotion Working Group, on April 28, 2025. Whitworths, a leading UK-based importer and distributor of grains and dried fruits, discussed potential trade expansion and ongoing cooperation with Cambodian exporters.
The engagement aims to strengthen trade ties between Cambodia and the UK while supporting the growth of Cambodia’s agro-processing sector. As part of their due diligence, the Whitworths delegation is scheduled to visit several local cashew processing facilities to assess product quality, compliance with international standards, and export readiness.
This development aligns with Cambodia’s efforts to diversify its export markets and enhance the value of its agricultural products. Cashew nuts, in particular, have seen rising global demand.
The Ministry of Commerce welcomed Whitworths’ interest, highlighting the potential for long-term partnerships that could boost Cambodia’s agro-industry and create new opportunities for local producers.
