Phnom Penh, September 12, 2025 — Sinomach Hainan Development Co., Ltd., a major Chinese state-owned enterprise, has unveiled plans to invest in Cambodia’s cashew processing sector, with the goal of processing 30,000 tons of cashews annually in the project’s first phase.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting between Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the Cambodia Investment Committee of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Mr. David Zou Zhun, Head of Agriculture at Sinomach Hainan Development Co., Ltd., on September 12, 2025.
The investment marks a significant step in strengthening Cambodia’s agricultural processing capacity and enhancing exports to the Chinese market. According to Mr. Zou Zhun, Sinomach is currently collaborating with several key partners — including Kampu Nuts Agro Products, Hangzhou Baichen Food Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Jiabin Agricultural Park, and Hangzhou Weiying Food Co., Ltd. — to collect and process cashew products in Cambodia for export to China.
Sinomach Hainan Development, a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH), specializes in manufacturing industrial and agricultural machinery, processing crops, and facilitating agricultural trade in Hainan Province.
During the meeting, Chea Vuthy presented a detailed overview of Cambodia’s cashew value chain — from cultivation and harvesting to drying, storage, and processing — emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting industrial-scale processing using modern technologies.
“The Royal Government of Cambodia is actively seeking investment partners with advanced technology to add value to our cashew industry,” Mr. Vuthy said. He also highlighted the potential of other key agricultural products, including cassava, bananas, mangoes, and durian, which offer further opportunities for investment and value chain development.
Sinomach’s cashew investment in Cambodia will roll out in three phases. Phase 1 targets 30,000 tons of processed cashews per year, followed by an expansion to 200,000 tons in Phase 2 and 500,000 tons annually in Phase 3.
This investment aligns with Cambodia’s broader agricultural development strategy and is expected to generate employment, enhance local processing capacity, and boost the country’s exports to high-demand markets like China.
