PHNOM PENH, May 2026 — South Korean investors are increasingly looking toward Cambodia’s agricultural sector, particularly cashew processing, as new investment opportunities emerge under the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
The interest was highlighted during a meeting between Samdech Hun Sen and Mr. Park Joo-bong, Chairman of Daejoo KC Group and President of the Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During the discussions, Mr. Park stated that Cambodia has become an attractive and secure destination for South Korean investors, with agriculture identified as a priority sector for future expansion. He noted that cashew nuts have drawn particular attention due to Cambodia’s abundant raw materials and growing export potential.
Samdech Hun Sen welcomed the increasing interest from South Korean businesses and expressed strong support for investment in Cambodia’s agricultural sector, especially in cashew processing.
He emphasized that Cambodia is currently prioritizing domestic processing of agricultural products for export, rather than relying heavily on raw commodity exports. According to Samdech Hun Sen, Cambodia possesses sufficient agricultural resources, but requires more investors capable of adding value locally before exporting products to South Korea and international markets.
The former Prime Minister also underscored the importance of trade and investment as key pillars of Cambodia–South Korea relations. He said the visit by South Korean investors presents an important opportunity to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.
Samdech Hun Sen further highlighted the recent elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership and expressed hope that relations would continue to advance toward a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the near future, particularly as the two nations approach the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
The meeting comes as Cambodia accelerates efforts to expand its domestic cashew processing industry, attract foreign investment, and strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading producers of raw cashew nuts.
