STUNG TRENG / KAMPONG THOM, Cambodia – Cambodia’s cashew sector is taking a significant leap onto the global stage this month, fueled by strategic partnerships with Japanese corporations and government-backed trade initiatives.
In a landmark development for the rural economy of Stung Treng province, Handcrafted Cashew nut Stung Treng (HCST) received a high-level delegation from Inoue Calcium Corporation, a distinguished Japanese company with over 140 years of history based in Kochi, Japan.
The visit, which included the CEO and management team of Inoue Calcium, was framed not merely as a buyer-seller inspection but as a commitment to long-term, sustainable growth for the province.
“His visit to Stung Treng was not only as a buyer, but as a true partner committed to supporting sustainable growth and creating long-term impact for the province and its people,” a company representative stated.
Mrs. Mut Chakrya, founder and managing director of HCST, stated that this collaboration marks a transformative chapter for the region. “This marks the beginning of a new chapter for rural Stung Treng province. Soon, our authentic premium cashews from Stung Treng, Cambodia, will be introduced with refined international packaging—bringing our products beyond Cambodia to Japan and to the world.”
She added: “From a once overlooked province to the global stage, we are proud to carry the story of Stung Treng forward—where purpose grows, and premium is crafted.”
The growing ties between the Cambodian and Japanese private sectors were further underscored by a separate diplomatic engagement. On April 22, Mr. Atsushi YONEZAWA, Director of the Japanese Consular Office in Siem Reap (under the Japanese Embassy to Cambodia), paid a private visit to CAC, Mr. Silot Uon, President of the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC). The meeting took place at the CAC head office in Kampong Thom Province to discuss strategic opportunities for cashew business development.
Building on this momentum, the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC), in coordination with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), hosted a dedicated business-matching event. The gathering successfully brought together nine Cambodian cashew processing companies and 14 Japanese firms.
The event aimed to explore investment and partnership opportunities within Cambodia’s rapidly growing agro-processing sector, signaling strong Japanese interest in diversifying supply chains and sourcing high-quality, sustainably produced Cambodian cashews.
These consecutive developments highlight a strengthening economic corridor between Cambodia and Japan, positioning the Kingdom as a rising source of premium, handcrafted agricultural products for the international market.
