PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, Aug. 14 — Cambodia has called for stronger cooperation between the government and private sector to improve trade, investment and logistics connectivity, reduce business costs and expand markets for Cambodian products.
The call was made at a discussion on “Strengthening Trade, Investment and Logistics Connectivity: Promoting Private Sector Development and Cambodian Products Diversification” held Friday at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center in Phnom Penh.
Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, presided over the opening of the event, which was organized in collaboration with Yorker Trade & Marketing Service Co., Ltd.
The discussion brought together officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Council for the Development of Cambodia, Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and Cambodia Post, along with representatives of the textile, apparel, footwear and travel goods sector, private businesses, investors and other stakeholders. The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) also sent two representatives to attend.
The event provided a platform for policymakers, businesses, investors, logistics operators and development partners to exchange views on challenges and opportunities in trade, investment and logistics, while identifying practical measures to improve supply-chain efficiency and facilitate trade flows.
Samheng Bora outlined six key recommendations to strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of Cambodia’s trade sector.
These include strengthening public-private cooperation to improve policies and the business environment; improving the quality and presentation of Cambodian products through better packaging and standards while promoting Made in Cambodia products; expanding digital trade and private-sector participation; strengthening logistics and supply chains to reduce costs; attracting investment and international partnerships to support processing, technology adoption and knowledge transfer; and diversifying products and export markets.
The recommendations come as Cambodia seeks to strengthen domestic value addition and expand international market opportunities for locally produced goods.
Participants emphasized the importance of closer coordination between government institutions and the private sector to address supply-chain constraints, improve logistics services and enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian products in regional and global markets.
