Kampong Thom, June 21, 2026 — The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) organized a training course for cashew farmers on "Techniques to Increase Cashew Yields for the New Planting Season," bringing together producers and industry stakeholders to strengthen climate resilience and improve farm productivity.
The training, held in Kampong Thom province focused on preparing farmers for the upcoming production season amid increasing climate and pest-related challenges.
Participants discussed key difficulties encountered during the previous season, including delayed field operations due to limited financial resources, improper application of agricultural techniques, pest outbreaks, unfavorable geographic conditions and severe weather events that affected productivity.
To help farmers better prepare for the new season, the training covered climate risk awareness, participatory mapping, seasonal calendars, and the identification of common threats such as pests and diseases. Farmers were also introduced to practical approaches for on-farm management, soil fertility improvement, nutrient management, record keeping, cost analysis and market linkages.
The agenda included a review of rainfall and temperature forecasts for July, August and September, assessment of climate impacts on cashew production, crop management and protection strategies, fertilizer application planning and the establishment of monitoring schedules for destructive pests.
In addition, participants received a presentation on the benefits, preparation methods and application techniques of HEM Organic Fertilizer, aimed at improving soil health and supporting sustainable production.
CAC emphasized its commitment to inclusive participation, targeting at least 40 percent female farmers and representatives from vulnerable or underrepresented groups in its training activities.
Speaking at the event, Silot Uon stressed the importance of preparedness and knowledge-sharing as climate variability continues to pose risks to Cambodia’s growing cashew industry. He encouraged farmers to adopt climate-smart practices and strengthen farm management to improve yields and ensure long-term sustainability.
The training forms part of CAC’s ongoing efforts to build the capacity of cashew farmers and support the development of a resilient, competitive and sustainable cashew sector in Cambodia.
