Phnom Penh, Feb 18--The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) has held a strategic meeting with the Skills Development Fund (SDF) to explore partnership opportunities aimed at strengthening workforce capacity in Cambodia’s cashew industry.
During the meeting, CAC highlighted its ongoing efforts to enhance the skills of its members through extensive training programs focused on modern farming techniques and cashew processing skills. The association emphasized the need for sustained collaboration to further professionalize the sector and meet growing domestic and international market demands.
SDF, a national trust fund established under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, was piloted in 2018 and officially launched as a trust fund in 2023. The fund is designed to strengthen Cambodia’s workforce through demand-driven and co-financed training programs that align closely with labor market needs.
As a key mechanism supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Vision 2050, SDF plays a vital role in equipping both the workforce and private sector to meet current and future industrial demands. Its work is structured around three core programs: the Training Fund, Networking Supports, and Strategic Interventions—each tailored to ensure that training initiatives are accessible, impactful, and responsive to industry requirements.
Both parties expressed strong commitment to deepening cooperation in the near future. SDF representatives indicated their willingness to visit CAC’s head office to work directly with the association or the Polytechnique Institute of Kampong Thom (PIKT) to accelerate project development and implementation.
The collaboration is expected to contribute significantly to building a more skilled and competitive workforce for Cambodia’s cashew sector, reinforcing the industry’s role in the country’s broader economic development agenda.
