Kampong Thom province- Governor Mr. Nuon Pharath highlighted the region’s agricultural potential, particularly in cashew production. He emphasized that the cultivation of cashews is a key initiative promoted by Prime Minister Hun Manet, aimed at bolstering and expanding Cambodia’s agricultural sector to support the national economy. This initiative is consistently advanced to improve the livelihoods of local communities.
Governor Pharath shared these insights during a contract signing ceremony for the sale of wet cashews, which took place on February 24, 2025, involving Mirarth Agri Tech Co., Ltd. and local agricultural communities.
He noted that over 73% of Kampong Thom’s population is engaged in agriculture. Recently, the Prime Minister made two visits to inspect the cashew community, focusing on establishing effective policies for the entire supply chain, from cultivation to export, with the goal of positioning Cambodia as a leading cashew nut exporter.
The governor praised the community’s strategic planning, which includes a sales model of 70% wet cashews and 30% dried, along with a contract farming arrangement of 10-15%. He encouraged all cashew growers to expand their cultivation practices to align with market demands.
Furthermore, it is important to mention that the establishment of a modern cashew community is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, which aims to enhance the livelihoods of community members through improved agricultural practices.
